On a bright summers day, two young girls were born in the same hospital.

Both were born into what were in those days called respectable and well to do families.

Both were loved.

Both were bright, without being exceptionally intelligent.

And both were given the best education open to women, in their culture, at that time.

One achieved respect, admiration and success in her career.  In her personal life she lived a happy home life, raising three well balanced children.  She passed away contentedly at the age of 81.

Have you ever wondered what makes the difference in two individual's lives like this?

Intelligence, background, hereditary and luck, just can't explain it.  There are many stories of people overcoming every possible obstacle and still succeeding. 

Equally there are as many stories of those with every seeming advantage who just can't seem to stop themselves from self-destructing.

What Is It That Makes The Difference?

The difference between success and failure... between the life you dream of and the one you dread... is all in your head. 

It's the way we make sense of the world.  I call this Our Human Operating System. 

Just as your computer needs an Operating System, such as Windows, you need a way to be able to quickly perceive, interpret and judge all the things happening in the world. 

So every thought you've ever had all fit together into a giant mental framework. 

And this mental framework influences everything you see and the way that you react to it.  In other words it's the buffer between you and the world.

The closer your Operating System is to reality, the more effectively you'll respond to the world.  And so life becomes easier and easier.

When we class someone as insane what we are really saying is that their Operating System is so distorted that they react to something that isn't true.  In much the same way we make up the barriers between us and the things we want.

Life is really simple with a clear Operating System.  You see what you want and take it.  It's just like picking an apple of a tree.  However most of us make it so complicated - through our Operating Systems - that we can't find the tree anymore. 

Have you ever come across one of those infuriating people who just drift through life effortlessly, getting everything they want?  Or more likely you've come across people who could always make money or make relationships work or some other aspect of their life.

It's all down to their Operating System.

The difference between...

Jesus and Hitler,

Buddha and a serial killer,

Bill Gates and a down and out...

are all down to their Operating System.

It is never a question of...

Is it possible for you to get what you want? 

Whether it's happiness, wealth or a loving relationship.  Everything you want (or close to it) is already here or you couldn't imagine it.  Other people have found their way to it.  And so can you.   

The question is only...

Can you steer yourself to what you want?

And the answer to that question depends on whether or not you can upgrade that area of your Operating System.

The path that will take you to where you want to be... has to be travelled in your head.  As you do this you'll start to make the decisions that will lead you to the things you want.

If you're off the path mentally, it doesn't matter how hard or honestly you try... you'll still fail.  The decisions you make will lead you to failure, to debt, conflict and so on.  They'll push people away from you.  Money too.  And the rest of the stuff you want.

The basis for the path you choose is the sum total of wisdom you've picked up through your life.  Everything depends on this.

The difference between a deathbed filled with regrets and unfulfilled potential or a fully lived life depends entirely on the quality of your Operating System.
